Impressive review and balanced remarks…..great …me too working in Allahabad…

    • Nishant Garg

      thanks for your appreciation :)

  • Hassan Abaza

do u think they can integrate this tablet to work with other languages than english or that will be a hard task. Also if someone wants to buy a big quantity and ask to buy a more expensive screen would that be possible?

    • Sabya

Supporting other languages should be easy. It is an Android device basically. If Google has support for a language , applications can be built with that language’s font.

      • Sundar

Actually, last I checked, Android didn’t have Unicode support and google didn’t seem very eager about adding it. Some apps hack around this, but it’s a worrying fact when considered in the context of this tablet.

      • Sahaja

Most Android 2.2 devices do not support Indian scripts. To do that properly they need to support Unicode + complex script rendering. This is not included in Android 2.2 – though Samsung seem to have added it to some of their Android phones.

    • Nishant Garg

the commercial version is proposed to release in December. apps can be installed by adding the APK files into the device. The Tablet does not have the Android Market.

  • nilesh2s04

what if they bring capacitve nd tft two diff models i guess many ppl can pay for a lil bit more

    • Nishant Garg

It wasn’t their (Datawind’s) choice. The govt set the upper limit for the price, they had to limit themselves within the range. The capacitive screens is in consideration and should be included in the commercial version in the future, as stated by the CEO Mr Tuli.

  • Venkat Rn

May be NarayaMurthy feel happy by seeing this innvoation from an IITian..

good.. but i am agreewith him in that case.. otherwise.. why that many suisides in IITs .. one side great innovations… from IIT.. the premier intellectual institues of india

  • Carbonetra

I think the manufacturers can develop 3 versions of this product. With increase in the performance the can add a few grands in the price. If $22 is the import charges for capacitive touchscreen against $4 for resistive one , we can have a tab with capacitive touch too without getting our pockets burnt. Similarly other features can be added provided the cost doesnt shoot up! Greater options to choose from will facilitate a great number of customers to bring this cute tab and get pleased.

  • Raghunathan A

Best review about the device! Let us know the updates about the device!

  • Tapan Mallik

    Dear Nishant,

First of all thanks for such a good review.
I just wanted to know how the USB ports are working after we insert a Memory stick.
Is it opens automatically as in Desktop Pc it opens or its a totally different application to dealwith?
Its totally a new concept which is missing in Ipad and also in Galaxy Tab.
It wil be better if you can tell us if you have the device in hand regarding the USB experience.
Camera will be an added advantage for commercial purpose.

    Best Regards,
    Tapan

    • Nishant Garg

The USB drives are treated same as a micro-sd card and opens in the file manager app. Yes this feature is new and probably among the best ones in the tablet. Thanks for the appreciation :)

    • Nishant Garg

Tapan, sorry for the delay in answering.
The Tablet treats a USB as a Micro SD card and hence you need to open up the file manager to access the data in the USB.
The standard USB ports are by far among the best features of the Device.

      • Tapanmallik02

        Thanks Nishant…:)

  • Anant

very nice review Nishant. I want to know whether it supports all android market apps or only some of them. Also Which video formats can it play?

    • Nishant Garg

The inbuilt movie player app only plays .flv files but you can always install player apps which support different formats!

  • Sergio Soto
